My mom and I recently created 32 table numbers for a large outdoor wedding. The mixture of burlap and lace is very popular with brides these days, which happens to be our specialty! Nearly three years ago I had burlap and lace at my very own wedding and my mom and I have been having [...]
It has been so hot the last few days! Our AC broke and at closing time the store was 94 degrees. YUCK!! Needless to say my mom and I were a little delirious. We are trying to prepare for the flea market this upcoming Sunday, so we have been working on projects all week. Today [...]
We have carried Carole Fabrics for several years now. The fabric they offer is gorgeous. Every time a new box of sample books comes in the mail my mom and I spend the day oohing and aahing as we look through all the new fabrics. We have always loved to look at fabric. As a [...]
If you follow this blog regularly you have probably noticed that I’ve been MIA. My mom and I are doing the flea market in Long Beach once a month and this month we decided to take on a second show. Loading up both of our SUV’s with merchandise, hauling it to a show, setting up [...]
This set of chairs is one of our most recent projects. We took inspiration from Restoration Hardware. We just love their Deconstructed line of French inspired furniture. I painted the chairs with a dry brush technique and sanded them like crazy to give them a very worn patina. My mom upholstered them in burlap using [...]
I feel incredibly fortunate that I am able to work with my family doing something we all love. Our store front is located in a mixed use building. My husband and I live above the store in a loft with our baby girl. My mom shows up early every day to work so she can [...]
My mom and I have been at it again. We have been having so much fun with burlap these days. Our store and workroom are a total mess! Our sewing machines are coated in burlap dust and our clothes at the end of each day are scattered with lint and fray strands of burlap. It’s [...]
My mom and dad recently built this farm table for a client of ours. The legs are vintage and one of a kind. The table top is constructed of solid, kiln dried poplar, which is a very hardwood. The table top is about two inches thick, so it creates a sturdy and durable surface for [...]
My mom and I love to sew!! We have both been sewing our whole lives and enjoy every minute we spend together at our workshop sewing and creating. Our store front is full of items that we have lovingly hand crafted. If you are local stop by and visit us! Our boutique is located at [...]
We just recently launched our ONLINE STORE and it is full of hand made tote bags, decorative throw pillows, table runners and so much more! All of the items are lovingly made by hand by my mom and I. We use a ton of burlap and vintage lace to create monogrammed pillows, handmade purses, [...]

My mom is a DIY kind of gal. When I was a kid I remember trips to thrift stores, strolling the hardware store isles, and of course spending hours feeling fabric at the yardage shop. She was constantly transforming bargain buys into treasures for our home. With a fresh coat of paint or a new slipcover, she gave old furniture new life. We have always enjoyed being creative together and in 2008 we turned our hobby and passion into a business.
Alchemy fine living is a creative business located in Santa Ana, Ca. We offer furniture painting services, upholstery, and custom slipcovers. We also sell vintage and antique treasures, as well as hand crafted items that we create. Our store is full of all the things we love!
I'm Deana, the author of this blog. My mom, Connie, taught me from a young age how to spot a deal at a flea market or a thrift shop. She could always spot the hidden potential of an old, worn out piece of furniture. I learned to sew when I was four years old and all through the years I helped my mom with DIY projects around the house.
In 2008 she & I turned our hobby into a business. We re-do old furniture and hand craft items for sale in our boutique. For those who, like us, love to DIY we offer lots of tips and advice in our tutorial videos. We also offer furniture painting, upholstery, and sewing services for those who don't want to tackle the project themselves.
