I introduced this dresser in an earlier post titled, “Dresser with an aged patina“. The hardware was still wet, so only half of it was put back on, and the glaze was tacky, so I snapped one quick photo. I was so excited to show it off I couldn’t wait to put it all back together, stage a photo, and do it right the first time. But now, one week latter, I finally finished and she is ready for a proper debut!

If you read the first post about this dresser you already know that I achieved this look using a clear glaze that I tinted with black paint. This was my first attempt at finishing a piece with glaze and I have to say I am so jazzed about this new product.  I will be glazing like crazy for the next couple of weeks! It’s my new favorite thing.

This is a gorgeous transformation! Dressers are my absolute favorite pieces of furniture to do-over and I think this is one of my favorite dresser makeovers I’ve seen! I am glad you mentioned the glaze. That is one thing I want to learn to use, but haven’t understood it. The glaze def. takes this piece to the next level of beauty!

I love this look. I am a new to this, but I have a chest that was my grandparents and I want to paint it and make it have this distressed look. Is it easy to use a glaze and can I find it at any hardware store? Thanks

Hi Deana….Love the way this dresser came out. Incredible job. Glazing is sometimes like a work of art. Love your stuff!

  9. Deana says:

I thought it was pretty easy. I found the one I used at Lowe’s in the paint department, but I’m sure they sell it at most hardware stores.

I looovve this piece! It’s absolutely stunning! Question:Does glaze get applied the same way as the stain after painting?

  12. Deana says:

Basically. I paint it on with a brush and then wipe it off with a clean cloth, leaving it heavier in some spots than in others.

Fabulous work! I adore that chest!!

    Happy Easter!

Can you tell us the ratio of paint to glaze used when you do this type of project? It is gorgeous!

  15. Deana says:

I just poured in the black paint until I liked the color. Sorry I can’t be more specific, my guess would be about ten to one. (more glaze than paint)

    Hi Deana.

I just found your site and LOVE it. I adore painted furniture and have painted some myself. I have also tried the glaze. Did you distress this piece of furniture before you glazed it or after?? Thank you!

  17. Lisa says:

PS. Do you wax after using the glazing treatment?

    Lisa

  18. Deana says:

nope. glazing is the last step.

  19. Deana says:

Before, but you could do it after if you wanted. I don’t think it would make much of a difference.
