Interior design consultation
Yesterday I met with a design client for our initial consultation. I took pictures and measurements of the rooms in his house that I will be working on. We discussed colors he likes, fabrics, rugs and the specific look he is going for. His home was built in the early 1900’s and is a Spanish style home with great architectural detail. He likes to mix old with new. This is going to be fun! Mixing old with new is my favorite thing to do.
His house is, as he admitted, “pretty bare bones.” He has a few rugs and most of the main pieces of furniture, but no accessories, basic lighting and minimal wall art. He basically needs the works. I expect this project to take about a month or two. We are going to create custom bedding for him and possibly a padded headboard, since he has his mattress on a generic metal frame as of now. We will also create a window covering for an unusual, but gorgeous, rounded window and some pillows for the sofa and chairs in the living area.
I will also help him purchase some additional pieces of furniture, change some of the fixtures and add additional lighting. He wants me to even help him pick out dishes for the kitchen, towels for the bathroom and accessories and artwork are a must.
He is a business owner who used to work crazy hours. His business kept him from spending much time at home, so that is why it has remained bare and unfinished. Now that he is spending more time at home he wants to make it a place where he can enjoy spending time and I am thrilled to help him achieve that.
Since I am doing several rooms of the house I will make a series of posts about this project. I will start with the living room. Below are pictures of what it currently looks like.

The artwork is going to leave the room and may possibly end up in the dinning room. The reclining chair is also going to leave the room. I would like to bring a large buffet into the room and place it along the wall where the artwork is now. I have a mirror picked out that will hang directly above it and some amazing lanterns that look like antique Spanish lanterns, rust an all, to hang on either side of the buffet. Below the lanterns I am thinking of placing large urns with indoor plants in each.
The sofa will face the buffet and the side chair will sit on an angle facing the same direction. The sofa will have a table directly behind it. The sofa table will be what is seen from the street when looking through the large rounded window, so it will be somewhat of a focal point.
This is the buffet I want to use
