Garage sales

I love going to a garage sale and discovering something amazing for an unbeatable price. Who doesn’t right? I have this fantasy of finding something for 10 cents and discovering at the Antique Road Show that it is worth several thousand. I know this is very unlikely, if not impossible, but that it why it is called a fantasy.  Problem is it’s not that easy to do now days, not where I am anyways.

Garage sales can be so hit or miss in Orange County, California. I have found that there are a few different scenarios when it comes to garage sales. My search for treasures always fits into one of these categories; I find an estate sale full of gorgeous antiques and the prices are so high I could go to some ritzy antique store and pay the same price there, I spend the entire day driving from house to house to end up completely empty handed or I hit the jack pot and find some really great deals and some awesome treasures. The last situation is the least common of the three, but the one that makes it all worth while. I guess it is the thrill of the hunt that keeps me coming back for more.

Yesterday I had one of those days where I drove from house to house and spent my entire morning fairly disappointed. At several of the houses I just did a slow drive by because it wasn’t even worth getting out of my car for a pile of old shoes and clothes strewn on the front lawn.  I didn’t end up entirely empty handed though. I did find one treasure; a pair of antique chalkware figurines.  They are from Italy and date back to the early 1900’s. The pair is in perfect condition too. I just love the vibrant colors of deep, rich teal and rust.

I tried for about an hour to find a place for this pair in my home, but never could find the right spot. What I need is another surface for displaying nick knacks, another table or maybe a shelf. Then I would need more chotchkies to fill that space. It is such a snowball affect, so instead I have decided to put them up for auction on Ebay.  This lovely pair could be yours! The starting bid is only $9.99. CLICK HERE TO GET IN ON THE AUCTION.

  • Hi, Deana, those are very pretty! I sometimes buy things too & turn them around on Ebay, when I know I’ve found a great deal. Good eye on that. I’m sure you’ll find something else next time. I don’t always find great things every week, but usually don’t come home empty handed either. Thanks for playing!
